Redundancies in Sheffield

It is now becoming common place for me to be contacted by people after they have been made redundant. Clearly being made redundant hits you hard, though it impacts people in a variety of forms. It can, indeed, affect a person's self-esteem. This can stem from the process of being redundant (as in a feeling of worthlessness) or most commonly the thought of not being able to provide for the family.

The most recent redundancy problem I received was one from a lady particularly distressed with the manner in which her husband had responded to being made redundant. She reported issues with alcohol and his sleeping patterns.

My advice to them was to try to be a reassuring figure. Contact mortgage lenders etc and inform them of the situation - be as proactive as possible on a practical level. Try to avoid putting pressure on the person as this will do little to ease their concerns regarding them feeling inadequate. And, finally, be as supportive as you possibly can .. it's incredibly hard at a time like this, of course, but persevere.
